15mm Ka-82 "Villain"

The primary attack fanjet of the CIS, the Ka-82 bears the UCSA/ROT nickname "Villain". This name is a holdover from the 20th and 21st century practice of assigning USSR and successor state aircraft reporting names, officially terminated after the UCSA/CIS alliance treaty of the early 22nd century.

In contrast to the two-tier UCSA gunship fanjet doctrine, relying on sophisticated Arapaho medium attack-reconnaissance gunships for most missions with super-heavy Zia aerial artillery platforms for strategic attack and interdiction, the CIS relies wholly on simple but robust heavy gunships such as the Ka-82, Ka-70, and Mi-65. As in the UCSA, the flexibility and speed of gunship fanjets has allowed them to largely replace fixed-wing atmospheric aircraft.

The Ka-82 slots neatly into CIS doctrine, being heavily-armed and sufficiently armored to operate at the front line. It is armed with a 35mm GSh-35-1 autocannon in a limited-traverse fuselage mount, and four hardpoints on the lower leading edge of the coaxial fan disc assembly. Its sensor suite is limited, mainly consisting of a nose-mounted AESA radar array with both air-to-ground and air-to-air modes, and is intended for the anti-armor and defensive counter-fanjet roles. Power is supplied by a pair of UEC-992 turbofans. A generator coupled to each engine via a speed reducer gearbox supplies electrical power to the fan disc electric motor; generator power takeoff can be varied based on flight mode.
