Product Description
In 1990 the Canadian Government prepared for hostilities and dicided to send a Task Group into the Persian Gulf Region. Because of lack of modern ships, two of the older Restigouche Class DDE should be quickly refited. Within a few weeks the HMCS Terra Nova and a little bit later, the HMCS Restigouche were modifyed for this mission.
The Asroc Launcher and the Limbo Motar were removed, two quad launchers for Harpoon Missiles and a Phalanx CIWIS system take their places. Also they received modern electronics and chaff launchers on the bridgedeck.The ships boats were removed and one 40mm Bofors Bofin mount was installed on each side. The HMCS Terra Nova arrived in the Gulf Region in September 1990. Later the HMCS Restigouche should replace the Terra Nova, but the war ends before.
Im Jahre 1990 beschloß die Kanadische Regierung in Vorbereitung auf kriegerische Handlungen eine Schiffs-Kampfgruppe in den Persischen Golf zu senden. Aus Mangel an modernen Schiffen entschloß man sich, zwei ältere Geleitzerstörer der Restigouche Klasse für diese Aufgabe zu modernisieren. Die HMCS Terra Nova und die HMCS Restigouche gingen daraufhin in die Werft. Kurzerhand wurden der Asroc Werfer und der Limbo Mörser entfernt and an deren Plätze wurden zwei vierfach Starter für Harpoon Raketen und ein Phalanx Nahbereichsabwehr-System installiert. Die Schiffsboote wurden ebenfalls ausgebaut und an deren Stelle wurde jeweils ein 40mm Bofors Bofin Geschütz eingerüstet. Moderne Elektronik und Täuschkörper-Werfer auf dem Brückendeck ergänzten die Bewaffnung.
Die Terra Nova erreichte die Golfregion im September 1990. Bevor die Restigouche die Terra Nova ablösen konnte, war der Krieg jedoch schon zuende.
