A pleximeter is an instrument used in most often on the abdomen to estimate the size of the liver. It was used about a hundred years ago but most people just use their fingers. To use the pleximeter, you would place it on the abdomen and hit it with a reflex hammer and then move the instrument up and down and note where the sound changes. Other people have used it to find studs in the wall, or to estimate how much beer is left in a barrel. Since my fingers starting hurting, I started using it. Its ability seems to depend more on the obesity of the patient than on pleximeter.
