The Ida was designed as an army cooperation aircraft, capable of operating from rough fields behind the front lines and possessing extreme maneuverability at low altitude. It could carry photographic and radio equipment and small, anti-personnel bombs. It proved very effective in China but suffered heavy losses against Allied fighters. An advanced trainer, designated Ki-55, was very similar. About 1300 of each type were built and many finished their careers as kamikazes. This model is a re-scale of our 1/285 Ki-36, some parts have been altered to better fit the new size.
