Coil B 16

This is an experimental device.

16 AWG coil, 1.29mm Diameter - This fitting at terminals. The feed on one end is to be 120 VAC 60hz. The wire splits into two 16 AWG strands past the "B diamond". The side going into and out of the helix is 1:1 ratio (length and cable diameter measured from center) with the side going into the pass through. That the length of the helix is 2:1 to the pass through (120:60) - that for every turn in this proximity (helical), the electricity in the helix will pass the electricity in the pass through at 1/2 distance per unit length.

It is intended to be a AC to DC convertor, a solid-state rectifier.

It will only work with DC to AC conversion if because of the coil, the electricity is "braked" and polarity is switched because it turns out to be a temporal electro-magnet. This might cause however, a run-away Hz situation where there is no brake on polarity switching (AC and DC at such Hz being indistinguishable or run-away resistance and accomodation by the material (steel)) and may cause the coil to heat to excessive temperatures on minor voltages and high amp drain of the power source. It will only work if the physical ratio of the two wires is a suitable way to make a solid-state rectifier. The diamond with letter "B" at both terminals is designed release some electrical tension from the split.

The distances being at 2:1 and 1:1 are measured at 1.0000000 mm accuracy in the model file, scale factors: 1 mm = 16 AWG (1.29 mm). Shapeways manufacturing may cause lower tolerances.

There is also a "Coil A 16" which the ratio of 2:1 is maintained throughout the seperation (the side going into and out of the helix and the helix).

The purpose of this part is to experiment with electricity at 60hz AC; to see if the wire being twice the physical distance will result in the rectification of AC power into DC power or any other strange phenomenon with magnetic reactions or other electro-static properties that may occur, although it is possible nothing happens, that it is a "wire" in a circuit. It is also possible that it is a capacitor, transmitter, or other device.

It is 322.7266 mm (12.70577") in length and the Helix is on 12.9 mm radius (Centerline) - 11.61 mm is proximity between the two wires at the helix.

This is not an "electrical device" of any practical or known purpose or operation, but an experiment. Electricity and derivatives of its application can result in unknown or unforeseen consequences. The device, if connected to an electrical power source should be operated with care, to the best of my knowledge, this is done with maintaining a safe distance and not touching live surfaces, as this object is a conductive surface and when in line with the electrical power will be "hot". Some shielding should be provided to prevent unexpected occurences due to untested nature of this device, a plate steel .25" in thickness between the operator and the device, and a cut-off switch operated from a distance and beyond the plate steel in a "normally closed" configuration that may save the life of the operator in the case of emergency. The device may also be coated in an insulating substance, such as "liquid electrical tape" - the terminals covered in wire nuts and removed after dipping in the insulating substance and curing. The device, in any state it is in, is not certified nor approved for safe use in any kind or any way, nor is this guaranteed nor implied, the contrary - it should not be left in circuit unattended, and its mount should be a "non-conductive surface", a surface which is tested by an electrician and does not transmit detectable current. 

There is no guarantee of function. Manufacturing defects such as the product being formed incorrectly or broken (not matching the product image), variance from dimensions, should be taken up with Shapeways. If the dimensions are found to be incorrect, please notify me so that I may change them.

The device may also be purchased in plastic for other purposes.
