Product Description

Designed by the United States Rocket & Spacecraft Corporation and released to the public in 2145, the Bison-class and its derivatives would go on to become a staple of United Earth's early interstellar exploration, trade, and defense. Their early fusion-powered drives were terribly slow by modern standards - averaging about a month per light-year traveled - but hundreds were built, and would continue to ply the spacelines for over a century.

The Bison-class was available in a large variety of configurations, ranging from a simple bulk freighter to a liquids tanker, a luxurious passenger liner, a 'sleeper' ship carrying tens of thousands of passengers in stasis, and more. The Fleet would use the same hull design for their Pioneer-class light cruisers and numerous other prominent classes, the bulk of large combatants through the War. Matter/Antimatter reactors would better than double their speeds, tying Earth's sprawling colonies - and her allies - that much closer together.

UES Oomingmak (AP-38), a late-model matter/antimatter powered Bison-class that served as a fleet transport, is on display at the Fleet Museum.
