20 Foot On30 Freight Car Frame

For the DIY'er looking for an On30, 20 foot car, this item is for you.  This is a six-stick car frame measuring 7.5 ft x 20 ft across and over the end sills.  It is pre-embossed with dimples for NBW's on the end sills, Grandt Line #89 stake pockets, and queenposts (see my 3" queenpost product).  There is also a hollow suitable for a weight (3/64" x 7/8" x 2 1/2"). 

The couple pockets designed for Kadee #148 HO couplers.  For On30 de facto coupler height, it's recommended to use Kadee HO archbar sprung trucks.  These trucks come with HO 33" wheetsets but they should be swapped out for HO 36" wheelsets (be sure the wheels can't short against the metal truck frame).  If you opt to use the Kadee trucks with the stock 33" wheels, you will need to shim the trucks to achieve proper coupler height.  I prefer the Kadee trucks because they are metal and provide needed weight.  Screw holes for a 2-56 x 1/4" screw have been provided for mounting trucks and couplers.  

The texture of PA12 is slightly rough.  I find this to be ok for frame timbers especially after painting.  However, if you want a smoother surface, PA12 will take sandable spray primer.  Light coats, a day of curing time at least, and then you can wet or dry sand.  Repeat with finer grades of sand paper until you achieve the degree of smoothness you want.
