The Geminate Brooch - SMK

Inspired by the "Melancholy" painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder, this brooch want to emphasize the complexity of the elements and the essences of the painting. The shape of the brooch contains obvious components present within the first glance of the painting, like the circle shape, the needle and the clouds. When the brooch is flipped to the other side, there is a cut out area at the bottom of the circle, with the shape of the cloud emerging. This represents the underlying negative perception of the painting.

The negative spaces cut out from the circle gives different perspective for people to look at the details in the brooch. These irregular shapes reflect the complexity and multi-dimensional aspects of emotions.
