Product Description
this is a concept part, and may or may not be the final version I land on. The drawings are based on real CPR lantern drawings and are designed to be illuminated with LEDs.
Key modifications include some exageration of the lens-mount areas, as well as pre-drilled holes in base and through the four lenses to enable insertion of LED thru the bottom. The exagerated lens mount areas are supposed to be drilled out to allow insertion of a coloured lens. (I found that parts drawn to exact scale were producing too slim a cross section to be printed, so this is the fix - add material and drill out; Likewise the cross wise holes to allow light to shine through the lenses may need to be enlarged).
On the prototype, two of the lenses (across from each other) had a larger tin cowel, shielding the light when the switchstand was viewed from the side. My intent is to make that cowel from some metal pie plate material, and glue it on to the printed parts. We'll see. It hasn't been tried yet. I'm thinking start with a hole punch, cut a radius to allow forming into a cone, then snip off the point of the cone. That leaves the outer perimeter of the cowel. It would be inserted over the printend lens mount and glued to the back side of it. The lens is then inserted into the prnted mount, leaving only the pie plate cowel showing around it. Or that's the plan.
