Although the Slava-class cruiser officially "succeeded" the Kirov-class Battlecruiser, the more conventional cruiser was considered a safe alternative to the modern Kirov-class design. Alternatively, the Soviet had considered a more direct scale down model of the nuclear battlecruiser. Having reduced the dimension by about 20% and displacement by more than 40%, the Project 1293 retained 16 P-700 shipwreck missiles as opposed to the Kirov's 20. Much of the anti-air weaponaries were also retained with less missiles carried.
Of course with the dissolution of the USSR, the design was never realized.
