Product Description
This is an N-gauge or 2mm/1ft pair of wagon floor and ends units designed to fit directly onto the Peco 15’wb chassis kit.
The wagon represented is the ‘ Conflat-P’, which was a conversion from a plate wagon to carry one A-type and one B-type container, in the ‘Condor’ service. This model is designed around the containers in the
former Parkwood kit, which is hopefully available from the N-gauge Society.
To fit the Peco chassis you will need to file just 1 mm or so off the very ends of the chassis headstocks first, because the stanchions included on the 3D print have to be slightly oversize in that area to be strong enough for printing. This model has a solid floor and just raised plain corners to seat the containers, so it will look best with containers in place. Depending which ones you use, you may want to pad them in with a tiny bit of blue tack or similar to stop them falling out.
If you are thinking of trying this out and have not already been in touch with me about it, please make sure you are happy with its limitations. Contact me if you have any questions, for example about the size of the model containers which will fit.
It is based on a plasticard scratchbuild I made a very long time ago, and which looks OK to me as long as the containers are on board!
UPDATE 20210118 Enlarged the container spaces slightly to 15mm wide by 16.5 mm (A) and 33 mm long (B).
Narrowed the floor slightly, especially within the length of the container spaces, to make this area less visible if painted black, and leaving the very edges of the Peco chassis just visible to be painted in a suitable underframe colour. If desired, the narrowed portions could be filed even narrower (with care) as long as the edge of the chassis is painted well enough. However, I don't think this modification is necessary. If you do, and you are nervous about filing it (or you want a multipack and don't fancy all that filing) let me know and I'll upload a separate version/multipack that suits you. The model is a twin pack because the price for just one is exactly the same; there's no point uploading it singly. In fact it might be no more expensive than a pair as a triple pack (or even a 'tripple pack', if you are old enough to remember the original Parkwood kits' labelling).
