The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor fighter/fighter-bomber.  The United Kingdom operated two variants of Phantoms, the FG.Mk1, operated by the Fleet Air Arm from the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers, and the FGR.Mk2, flown by the RAF.  The main differences between the British F-4s and the US F-4s were the use of the British Rolls-Royce Spey engines, instead of the General Electric J-79’s, and British-made avionics.  The FG.Mk1’s had slotted stabilators, a hyper-extendable nose gear for a better angle of attack on launch, and catapult launch lugs under the leading edge of the wings.  The FGR.Mk2’s did not have these features.  52 FG.Mk1’s and 118 FGR.Mk2’s were produced.

This 1:144 scale model of the FG.Mk1 includes 69 parts, providing multiple options for displaying the model.  The kit features a detailed cockpit and includes both early and late version tail fins, extended and compressed main gear, hyper-extended, extended, and compressed nose gear, and closed gear doors.  Other items in the kit include the radar antenna, in-flight refueling probe, tail hook, and both internal and external cockpit access ladders.  The canopy is printed in four clear plastic pieces and may be displayed open or closed.  Payload in the kit includes a centerline mounted SUU-23A gun pod, inboard pylons with and without AIM-9 launch rails, outboard pylons, 2 Skyflash (AIM-7) missiles, 2 ballast Skyflash dummy missiles, 2 TER adapters, 2 TERs with three SNEB pods, a 500 gallon centerline tank and two 370 gal external wing tanks.  A list of the parts and parts diagram is provided and a file containing a decal sheet for printing your own decals will also be made available.  Alternatively, very nice decals, in multiple schemes may be obtained from Swampfox Decals at  jhaverstoc@aol.com.   A 1/144 scale model of the FG.Mk1 is also available, as is an accessory payload kit.
