I have an antique (1960's) viewer for photographic slides. The slides it takes re not the ones most of us may be used to, 2" x 2" square outside dimensions, but 2.75" x 2.75". I have made a cardboard gizmo to this size, that I can put a 2' x 2" slide into, so that I can use the viewer conveniently.  This design makes that gizmo more neatly in plastic. The other thing about the viewer is that it takes 1.5 V batteries about 48mm long and 25mm diameter (C). Unfortunately, the batteries I purchased for it a just a TINY bit fatter and I can't fit 3 of them into the compartment.  I can use 3 smaller (AA) batteries (around 14mm diameter) but they don't stay in position very well and could fall through a hole between the battery compartment and the space where the lens is mounted, and damage it. So I have designed a battery adaptor to hold them in place, and put 3 of them in this design. The 4 parts are sprued together so that the whole is a single unit. To use it, cut through the sprue and clean up flush with the flat surface of the slide holder and the curve surfaces of the battery holders.
Of course the AA batteries won't last as long as bigger ones would, but there may be other cases where you might want the option to use AA's, perhaps rechargeable ones, if only for a short time, or to keep you going until you can get hold of the correct size.
