Product Description

This one is for the romantic 'Little Mermaid' in you, or the adventourous 'Big Marine'! …for those of you who know how the ocean smells like: fresh, ozonic, fantastic, great, of faraway lands, and sometimes even of watermelons. Just so ocean! That is the smell of Calone 1951, or simply Calone – the epitome of the sea breeze, the scent of a holiday at the beach, or simply the smell of the waterside. Follow your marine elements, and discover the riches of the sea!

Calone (Calone 1951, watermelon ketone, 7-methyl-2H-benzo[b][1,4]dioxepin-3(4H)-one) was found by serendipity in 1966 at Pfizer by Beereboom, Cameron, and Stephens, and perfectly reconsiles the marine note at the seaside as well as the fresh fruity-watery aroma of watermelons. For over 20 years, Calone played a marginal role as a nuanceur of muguet accords until 'Kenzo pour homme' (Kenzo, 1991) by Christian Mathieu on the masculine and 'Escape' (Calvin Klein, 1991) by Jean-Marie Santontoni on the feminine side changed that overnight, and put Calone at the forefront of perfumery ('Scent and Chemistry – The Molecular World of Odors', Verlag Helvetica Chimica Acta/Wiley-VCH, 2012, p. 19). Their success initiated a marine trend with such such follow-ups as ‘L’eau d’Issey pour homme’ (Issey Miyake, 1994) by Jacques Cavallier, ‘Polo Sport Woman’ (Ralph Lauren, 1996) by Jim Krivda, ‘Cool Water Woman’ (Davidoff, 1997) by Pierre Bourdon, ‘Aquawoman’ (Rochas, 2002) by Michel Almairac, and 'Hugo Element' (Hugo Boss, 2009) by Nathalie Feisthauer. Albeit the ultra-marine trend is over since quite a while, and Calone is dosed more subtly nowadays, it has become indispensable in perfumery. Marine elements are an all-time favorite, and the almost C2-symmetrical shape of Calone, except for the crucial methyl substituent, makes it outrageously beautiful as a piece of jewelry.

The dimensions of the Calone pendant are ca. 4.1 cm × 1.8 cm × 1.7 cm, and the hole for the necklace (not included) has a diameter of ca. 3 mm. It fits nicely on a more massive rhodinated curb-chain necklace, such as the 2.5 mm/45 cm Oro Vivo SK20259 depicted (art. no. 7611324771731), but goes well with almost any other one as well.
