This branchy ornament is from a simulation of Diffusion-Limited Aggregation (DLA), a computational method that mimics many natural processes. In the method, virtual particles diffuse through a medium until they contact the structure, onto which they stick. Starting with one seed particle, the computer marches forward in time, assembling branchy, dendritic shapes such as this one. This particular model began as a single point, and growth was constrained to a sphere. The branch tips are 1mm in diameter.
The model will arrive as a raw, 3d-printed object. Just add a short section of fishing line to complete this unique ornament. Lighter colors will catch light, and all models will feel strangely wiggly and bouncy in your hands.
