The bowl in the clear housing has the impression. The bowl in the left tan housing is essentially perfect. Can you even tell the difference?

Hello, friends!
In an effort to make bowls more available, affordable, and abundant, I have been working on this bronze insert. I've been tweaking the casting method, and it's now dialed in quite nicely!
This bronze now comes out very close to on-spec for with the top metal N64 bowl makers, and we've gotten very good feedback about it!
The good thing about this insert is that it is less expensive than other options on the market without a lot of compromise on quality.
Depending on your luck, some bronze bowl inserts coming polished from ShapeWays will come out perfectly. If not so lucky, there will be a slight impression on the bowl surface. In the latter case, the bowl will be competitive grade! In the former, it will still be great for casual play. Some will have a slight visible depression in the bowl (because of the casting process). When having the tests for these pre-polished bowl inserts made, I had two polished inserts made. One came with a slight impression, and the other didn't have one at all. They both look beautiful. It's actually quite difficult to feel the impression on the one slightly flawed bowl. Many players say that the impression doesn't appear where the stick actually touches the bowl.
You can mitigate this by opting to go for the "polish-it-yourself" version of the bowl (the unpolished "natural bronze" variant). Polishing the bowl yourself while the insert is spinning (outlined below in the video) can make your bowl contour more consistent. I did my best to keep the prices low on these to get them out into the community!
Note, in order to use your bowl insert, you nee a bowl housing. You can use resin housings available on ShapeWays (which have recently received a huge boost to functionality) or you can opt to buy a drilled housing (OEM or KB) from the TaoStyx64 website.
Overall, I feel this is a great option for casual players and professional players alike!

Bronze is inexpexpensive, has a lower coefficient of friction than steel (more slippery), and looks beautiful!
Bronze is one of the most ancient alloys known to man and the method of "lost wax casting" is also one of the most ancient techniques for creating metal objects.
If you opt to purchase a "polish-it-yourself" insert, you can do so by following the procedure outlined in the video below.
Materials and techniques for polishing are identical with steel bowls and for bronze bowls. The only distinction is that you will want to use "red rouge" polishing compound instead of white polishing compound as you'd use for steel.
