1:32 Spinner for Albatros Scout, for use with Axial Propeller
This part is specifically designed to replace the WNW Albatros D.V/D.Va spinner, which in some people's eyes (ours included) is a little too long and "pointy." However the shape is a highly elusive thing; we have done our best to capture what we feel is the authentic shape, but submit ours may be in error as well! According to Dr. Glen Merrill, Albatros spinners were carefully fitted to each specific propeller type and thus not interchangeable. Therefore this spinner has been designed to closely fit the WNW Axial Propeller and
will not fit any other propeller in the kit. (Stay tuned for spinners fitting Wolff, Heine and Niendorf propellers.)
What's in the box?
A single spinner, to be used with your WNW Axial propeller and kit backing plate.
Preparing the parts for painting
The part will arrive with a slightly greasy coating. This should be removed prior to painting.
To remove the coating, scrub it with a toothbrush in ordinary dish washing liquid and rinse thoroughly,
or soak for
not more than 1 minute in a small jar filled with acetone (nail polish remover.) It is now ready to paint. After a check primer coat, sand carefully with a fine grit sanding sponge or sanding stick -- easy does it, you just need to knock the "fuzz" off the areas that had support material and smooth the step artifacts from the printing process. With care this can be accomplished without obliterating any details.
Assembly
Check fit the spinner with the backing plate and the WNW Axial propeller. You may need to carefully carve the inside of the spinner near the top of the opening on each side to achieve a tight fit. Use a sharp #11 blade, make small cuts, and check the fit often. Take care to carve at an angle, such that no material is removed on the outside of the spinner.
