Product Description
Original pendant inspired by Apolloism and the cult of Venus.
Venus is the goddess of love and lust, beauty and pleasure, sex and procreation. She is the lover of Mars.
The Latin theonym Venus and the common noun venus ('love, charm') stem from a Proto-Italic form reconstructed as *wenos- ('desire'), itself from Proto-Indo-European *wenh₁-os ('desire').
The pendant is made of a golden rose, roses which were offered in Venus' Porta Collina rites and were essential in Roman bridal bouquets as it was a symbol of love and sunlight.
The interior is a swan, as in Greek art, Aphrodite/Venus was depicted with a swan, a symbol of great health and grace, purity, love and intuition. In Roman times, Latin poets, such as Ovid and Horace, also referred to the goddess in her chariot being drawn through the air by swans. Venus has the swan symbol in common with Apollo, as it is thought to be the Hyperborean bird, migrating from the north like Apollo.
Women and men asked Venus help in affairs of the heart and sex before and after marriage.
Associated with freshwater, Venus absorbs and reacts to the male essence, uniting the opposites of male and female in mutual affection ; she is essentially submissive, assimilative. Freshwater we associate with "purity", including genetic.
