Product Description
Designed by Robert Stephenson, Invicta was the first locomotive on the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway.  As the next engine built by Robert after his iconic Rocket, many developments from the Rainhill winner can be seen in Invicta’s original form, although in 1836 the engine was substantially rebuilt with a retrograde single-flue boiler resulting in a noticeably different shape (also available in model form).  Invicta became the first ever preserved locomotive when acquired by the South Eastern Railway in the 1840s and today can be found in Whitstable Museum.

Once assembled with two-wheel tender (included), this scratch aid enables an unpowered free-rolling model engine that can be ‘motorised’ by coupling to a power source such as: https://www.shapeways.com/product/F9H5PPBEC/00-scale-open-truck-motorised

IMPORTANT: while most models available here have been pre-tested and known to work, this scratch-aid has not been printed/tested by myself, so while the measurements appear correct it is considered strictly experimental.

(Note: various materials are provided, however, WNV and BNV will require more preparation for smooth painting that FUD and FED.)

The following additional parts need to be sourced separately to complete (web links given as examples only):

Driving wheels – 17mm diameter (including flange; without c.16mm as per the Alan Gibson catalogue)
Tender wheels (12mm diameter including flange; c.11mm without)
Coupling rods (various lengths are available via Alan Gibson which could be adjusted or these can be scratchbuilt to suit).
Screw-fit coupling (best to just glue/pin – mounting point included on the engine): Hornby Spares - Coupling Unit and Screws - A1X Terrier - Pack of 1

Wire (for piston rods)
Pins (for rod linkages)
