Product Description
The Listowel and Ballybunion Railway was opened in County Kerry, Ireland, in 1888. Built to the Lartigue system, it was the world’s first commercial passenger monorail, operating until 1924, and remains one of the most famous monorail systems ever constructed. Although scrapped, a working replica was constructed in 2003, continuing the history of this remarkable railway experiment.
This model provides 32 additional wheels for the various items of Lartigue monorail rolling stock available. The wheels need drilling out to 1.4mm and are designed to work with 6.5mm length 1mm diameter axles (such as from a large paperclip) slotted into place beneath each coach/truck/engine. These can equally be used as small pulley wheels in other projects.
This item can be used to make a static display model (rolling stock separately available), but can also be made into a fully operational model with the use of steel strip and magnets (see video below).
