Product Description
A 3D print of a “pseudo-diatom” that was inspired by the 19th century drawings of Ernst Haeckel who created the most beautiful and artistic representations of diatoms in his work “Kunstformen der Natur”. Diatoms are ubiquitous in aquatic environments, soils, ice, or anywhere else where humidity is present. Diatoms are unicellular algae with a siliceous skeleton that can accumulate to form a sedimentary rock called diatomite. Diatom communities are a popular tool for investigating paleo- or present environmental conditions, being very sensitive to water quality such as chnages in salinity, temperature, and clarity. The size range of these organisms is between 1 to 2000 μm in length. This model has a tactile quality that is hard to describe.
You can add a jump ring and a cord and transform this mini-sculpture into a pendant. I hope you enjoy it!
