GWR Siphon J - Part 2 Body with destination boards
Siphons were constructed for the conveyance of milk in 17 gallon churns. The Siphon J was the last version and used frozen carbon dioxide (dry ice) within an insulated body to keep the milk cool.
These were built to Diagram O.31/40 between 1931-4 and lasted until the early 1960s, with one lasting until 1969.
This version has a destination board moulded in the middle of the body for when these vehicles were originally dedicated to one service. These were later removed. An alternative without the board is offered as Part 2A on this site.
This print is for the main body ONLY which I have printed in Smooth Fine Detail Plastic.
Other parts required to complete the model:
4x buffers;
2x bogies with wheels and couplings (This has been designed to use the Hornby/Airfix GWR Collett type as fitted to their Siphon G, H and Centenary Coaches or my “GWR 9' American Bogie - Hornby/Airfix Fit” available elsewhere on this site);
2x M4 nuts and bolts (to hold the bogies in place);
