Motorsport Inspired Steel Top

The design of this top was inspired by "basket weave" style light weight racing wheels. The idea is that thin pieces can be come strong when closely interlocked. I made the middle of the top as light as possible while supporting the heavier rim that contains most of the spining mass. When you spin the top the middle appears to become transparent and the outside looks as though it is floating. With a really good spin on a smooth hard surface like glass or granite the top can keep going for about 2 minutes.
