This contains parts to add a body-mounted brake cylinder to modern tank cars.
Refer to prototype photos for orientation and placement.
This also includes a drilling template to aid in drilling holes for the part as well as retaining brackets.
To install, refer to the lettered diagram
- Align the template on the bottom of the car using centering marks (A) for proper alignment.
- Ensure template is oriented so the brake cylinder points towards the brake wheel as shown.
- Drill pilot holes for the brake part (B) using a #68 bit.
- Drill holes for optional lever retainers (C) using a #77 bit.
- Template includes a bending jig (E) for forming the lever retainers.
- Optional - drill holes (#76) for brake rod safety retainer brackets by sliding the template along the tank body until holes for the bracket (D) are in the desired location. Use A-Line #29000 - Style "A" stirrup steps for brackets.
Carefully place the brake part in the holes (B), then attach 0.010" wire to each brake beam and chain using drops of CA.
