In 2002, the Kolomna plant produced the TEP70BS-001 diesel locomotive, which was the result of a deep improvement of the TEP70. From TEP70 he primarily differed more technological body, the presence of MSU (microprocessor control system and diagnostics), as well as electric heating system of the composition, like passenger electric locomotives. In 2003, in honor of the Hero of Socialist Labor — Boris Konstantinovich Salambekov series TEP70A was renamed TEP70BS (Boris Salambekov). Since then, all locomotives in the series, from number 002 onwards, have been produced under this designation. Serial production of locomotives began in 2006.
From the plant, TEP70BS locomotives initially received a red color with stylized two-color patterned lines on the front and sides, corresponding to the colors of the flag of the country of operation: Russian locomotives-lines of white and blue, forming together with the main red from the bottom of the Russian flag
