Product Description
The whale factory ship Nisshin Maru was launched in 1936. Until 1940 she made several trips to the Antarctic Ocean. In February 1941 her radio traffic was detected by the german commercial raider HSK "Komet", who searched the norwegian whaling fleet.
End of 1941 the japanese navy takes her as auxiliary oiler. Until 1944 she made many trips in this role and was also used as troop transport. May. 06. 1944 she was hit by three torpedoes of the US submarine "Crevalle" and sunk after a few hours.
Das Walfang-Fabrikschiff Nisshin Maru lief 1936 vom Stapel. Bis 1940 machte sie diverse Fangfahrten in die südpolaren Gewässer. Im Februar 1941 wurde ihr Funkverkehr durch den deutschen Hilfskreuzer HSK "Komet" aufgeklärt, welche die norwegischen Fangflotten suchte.
Ende 1941 wurde die Nisshin Maru von der japanischen Marine als Hilfstanker übernommen. Bis 1944 ünternahm sie viele Fahrten in dieswer Rolle, ausserdem wurde sie als Truppentransporter eingesetzt. Am 06.Mai 1944 wurde sie von drei Torpedos des US U-Bootes "Crevalle" getroffen und sank nach einigen Stunden.
