Ganymede Artillery Cruiser

Created in the same Initiative as the Callisto, the Ganymede was clearly designed as a giant-killer. Equipped with a blistering array of medium range lances on its port and starboard sides, and supplemented with a short range dorsal lance and a prow mounted battery array, its massive cannons are designed to carve up larger targets and act as the hammer to the Callisto's anvil. Unfortunately, throughout its long history, the Ganymede has the worst track record for system failures and power shortages. It is not uncommon to see several of these vessels docked while undergoing overhauls on their short lived energy relay systems.

The raw firepower of this vessel is not always a plus in the heat of combat, as any commanding officer or engineer would tell you. While it easily outstrips its more modern cousin, the Acheron, it draws undo attention from enemy ships. To compensate for the inevitable rain of fire that the ship must suffer, backup energy systems, repair teams and reinforced structural designs are being adapted for use in this vessel.
