Apollo & Daphne or the impossible love.

The first love of Apollo was Daphne, and it was not by chance, but because of the implacable anger of Cupid. Still elated with having won the snake, he boasted of his enterprise with Cupid, laughing at  him because also he  wore arc and arrows, and affirming that these didn't seem proper weapons for him.

Then Cupid decided to take revenge. He stopped on the top of the Parnassus and extracted two arrows from the quiver: the first one was blunt and of lead, the second was gilded and sharp.

With the first one the god pierced through Daphne, with the other one Apollo.

Apollo saw Daphne and fell in love with her, hoping for an impossible love.

But she, seeing the god, started to run away and didn't stop to his call.

Without more strength and tired of running, she turned to the Peneo river and she asked her father to help her to get dissolve her shape. Daphne was transformed into a laurel tree, so Apollo decided to make this plant sacred to him.
