This gauge is designed to quickly and consistently cut strips of thin material such as wood veneer, laminate, or cardstock.
To use lay the veneer on your cutting surface and set the gauge on top near the edge you wish to cut the strip from. The desired width in millimeters should be shown on top and toward the sheet of veneer. With one hand slide the gauge along the edge of the veneer, the raised area beneath the gauge should ride along the edge of the veneer. With the other hand place your straightedge so that the gauge also rides along its edge for the length you wish to cut. Remove the gauge while securely holding the straightedge in place.
The straightedge should now be the exact distance you require across the full length of the edge you need to cut. An additional 0.5 mm has been added to the measurement to account for the width of the knife blade and possibly one or two swipes with fine sandpaper.
With very little practice you can quickly make a number of consistently sized strips of virtually any thin material that can be cut with a razor knife.
