This adaptor allows the AEM Engine Position Module (p/n 30-3250) to be fitted to the Bosch JF4 distributor. This enables Alfa Romeo Nord and Twinspark engines, VWs, Porsches, etc to be easily converted from carburetors to EFI. The AEM EPM (not included) produces both a cam and crank signal for full sequential fuel injection and ignition.
The distributor's mechanical and vacuum advance mechanisms must be disabled so that the distributor shaft is locked. This is typically straightforward on the JF4 units, but varies depending upon the specific JF4 distributor being modified. The points and condensor, together with the points mounting plate also need to be removed (requires removing just a few screws).
AEM's Engine Position Module (EPM) allows users to convert their distributed ignition system to coil-on-plug (COP) or wasted-spark. It replaces the factory distributor to allow for the use of COP or wasted spark when used with the necessary additional components. It provides precise engine position via dual zero-speed optical sensors that deliver immediate signal generation regardless of engine speed (24 and 1 timing signal). A shock absorbing elastomer drive system eliminates potential timing deviation from vibration and protects the EPM module.
