Product Description
The Design IV battle cruiser of the KuK Marine (Kaiserliche und Konigliche Kriesgmarine), the Austro-Hungarian Navy, is a revised Design II project with a few unique traits for the time it was designed (1917). The hull was lengthened by 10 mt over previous versions, with displacement rising by 2.000 tons (32.000 stdd, 36.000 full load), keeping a maximum speed of 30 kn, 225 mm main belt, and while this required more machinery to maintain top speed, it increased range by some 15%. Armament was kept to three 38 cm twin turrets and 18 secondary guns, however anything below the 15 cm calibre that was present on any previous designs was deleted (Designs I and II had 8.8 cm guns in casemates), thus improving seakeeping and removing vulnerable spots in the side. Probably the most unique feature of Design IV is the presence of four 15 cm AA guns in fully enclosed gun houses with 100 mm of armour.
