Product Description
This stacking ring set represents the Golgi apparatus, an organelle of eukaryotic cells. In the Golgi apparatus, proteins are modified and packaged into vesicles for transport. The structure consists of stacks of cisternae, tiny pouches where the biochemical work of the Golgi happens. The top ring represents the cis face of the Golgi where newly synthesized proteins from the rough endoplasmic reticulum, packaged in transport vesicles, are taken up. The proteins are post-translationally modified in the cisternae of the Golgi and then packaged in secretory vesicles at the trans face (the bottom ring.) The secretory vesicles carry the newly synthesized and modified protein to where it is needed inside or outside of the cell.
The stacking rings are printed in interlocking polished silver. They will arrive from Shapeways with a thin rectangular wire band holding the rings together. This can be easily snipped with wire cutters or strong scissors to remove it from the rings.
The ring is currently available only in size 7 US, size 54 EU. For other sizes, please contact the designer.
