Product Description
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine, supersonic, fighter jet, designed as both a fighter and attack aircraft (hence the F/A designation). Designed by McDonnell Douglas and Northrop, the F/A-18 was derived from the latter's YF-17 in the 1970s for use by the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Hornet is also used by the air forces of several other nations, and since 1986, by the U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.
The fact that the Super Hornet's design is essentially a new aircraft compared to the legacy Hornet shows in the design of this 1:92 scale model. When I first began designing this model, I imagined that many of the components I put in the Super Hornet would be re-usable to save time and effort. I was wrong. Nearly every component of this aircraft was created from scratch. Very little was derived from my earlier work. As such, I sought to incorporate many improvements in my technique into the new aircraft. The results show, and will likely lead to me pushing out updates to the larger Super Hornet. Enjoy!
