While the Shield Mk.1 mounted a powerful yet fixed, spinal mount mass driver, advancements in Kushan engineering alongside a dissapointing set of initial flight tests yielded the much improved Mk.2 version of the Shield Defender.
The Shield Mk.2 sports a pair of mass drivers in a retractable mounting, allowing the vessel to close its guns to protect them against the elements and deploy them in under a second for combat situations.
