Product Description
This is my interpretation of a Hyster Straddle lumber carrier, versions of which were also made by Gerlinger, Ross etc. This equipment rolls over the top of lumber stacks, picks them up and shuttles them to another location, and were a standard at most lumber mills during the 30's to the early 70's, when the modern day forklift took over. This particular one would be suitable for the 50's to current. I've only made the front wheels turnable in order to cut down costs and provide a higher leverl of detail. The floor was also left open on purpose, as they normally had metal grating down. This can be replicated fairly easily by using window screening for instance, or plumbers screen, gluing from the underside up to the supports. for Windows, I suggest thin acetate or clear styrene. Should there be any questions or concerns, contact me via the designer link or direct via email to modelmechanic@gmail.com
I have not changed this in order to create it in the lower cost materials, as in order to do so, I'd have to remove detail and parts. To me, this piece is ALL about the fine details and parts, so I'm offering it in only the Frosted Detail material.
Note: This would also work well for O Scale 1/48th scale layouts or displays.
