This charm represents one of seven, life-size self-portrait busts, now miniaturized and rendered in simple graphic lines.  Nicknamed "Roman", the original bust that inspired this design was cast in bronze using the lost-wax method.  This bust is intentionally reminiscent of those seen in surviving statuary from Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, from the subtle green-red-brown variations of the patina to the subject's sculpted features.
