Product Description
Made from medical imaging data, this actual size model of a human inner ear is a perfect reminder of how fragile and precious hearing and balance are. A chain slips perfectly through the semi-circular canals to allow you to show off your third inner ear. Measures 25mm x 16mm x 12mm
The cochlea is the spiral of the inner ear. Inside is the organ of hearing, called the "Organ of Corti." It is 3mm long, just a few dozen cells wide, and is immersed in a unique fluid called perilymph. Sound vibrations reach the inner ear and cause hairs on the organ of corti to trigger nerves. The brain interprets those signals as sound.
The three hoops - the semi-circular canals - are part of the vesibular system - the balance organ. Each hoop has fluid and small sensor hairs. When we move the fluid triggers the hairs which send signals for each of the X, Y, and Z axies hoops.
