Manufacturing Job Loss Map

This map shows the extent of manufacturing job loss over the past fifteen years (since January 2001) as a share of starting total employment, by state.  Steep manufacturing job losses are cleary shown in the "rust belt," northeast, North Carolina and south central US, while the western states saw much smaller losses.  Only Alaska and North Dakota saw small increases in manufacturing employment over this time.  Source: Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
