This necklace is inspired by the fossilized skeletons of the fish lizards, the ichthyosaurs. Ichthyosaurs, a group of aquatic reptiles, appeared during the Triassic period but were extinct by the late Cretaceous. They are thought to have evolved from a land reptile that returned to the sea, and their appearance was much like modern day whales and dolphins. They are distinguishable by a large eye that may have helped them avoid predators. Our knowledge of ichthyosaurs originates primarily from fossil finds from the Lyme Regis area of England and Holzmaden, Germany.
The necklace is 6.2 cm long (2.4 inches) in the longest dimension (left to right) and 1.4 cm (0.6 inches) from top to bottom and is designed with two bails at each end to attach to a split chain.
The chain is not provided by Shapeways. You will need to purchase and attach the chain yourself, or order the finished necklace through my online shop
