IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy) Mogami class cruiser is one of 4 ships in her class built in the 1930s, initially as light cruisers. This model represents her in this as built configuration before her refit with 8 inch guns in 1939. Mogami also went through a later refit to carry aircraft on her rear deck.
Simple one piece model design for smaller scales and tweaked to ensure as compliant as possible with Shapeways across the range of materials offered and the perfect base on which modellers can add the fine detail flourishes to, depending on your skill level.
This model has the main must structures and main turret barrels etc offered on sprues, while the smallest minor turrets remain in a ‘floored’ design, and the larger secondary turrets have had their barrels removed. The designer assumes with this option, the modeller will produce the removed barrels of the larger side turrets with the likes of etched brass foil parts or some other scratch built alternative.
Designed by Philip Warnes and can be used at an appropriate hex scale with his
SeaLion Supremacy game, or any other naval tabletop game that uses this scale.
If you have family that served on this vessel class, why not order a metal miniature to keep as a small family keepsake or gift for someone else whose family served onboard. Or maybe you had family who worked at the yards that built this vessel. Keep your family military history alive.
At this scale we offer this ship in a range of other options to suit modellers needs - check out the other listings by us for this ship.
