Product Description
This N-gauge / 2mm:1ft model is of a type of wagon which carried one 'A' type and one 'BD' type container, converted from a 15' WB plate wagon by removing the sides and floor, fitting securing points for containers, and uprating the brake gear and bearings. There was a fleet of around 30 of them and they were used in the 'Condor' container service. Sometimes the plate wagon ends were removed during the conversion too, and there is another variant made for a single 20' container which I can upload again if anyone would like it back.
Because there is no floor on the wagon, I have modelled the chassis framing (and vacuum cylinder and brake gear) so that the wagon looks good when it is not loaded with containers. If this is no advantage to you, you could try my previous Conflat P model which is just a floor unit to fit on a Peco 15'chassis. This should look OK with containers hiding the lack of see-through-to-the-track frame detail. I have also uploaded a 'trellis' floor to fit a Peco chassis, which is a compromise between the two - paint the trellis a rusty colour so it shows up against the grey/black kit chassis.
Please note that the brake shoes on these entire wagons are rather exposed to handling, and fragile. If they have broken off in the post and you can't face returning the model, or you break them yourself, and doing without or just adding a bit of stick won't do, I have previously uploaded a sprue of spare ones so you can replace them.
Suitable 'A' and 'BD' type containers are available from the N-gauge Society (a former Parkwood kit) and there are other finished models and maybe kits out there from other suppliers that would work too.
The model comes with s set of N-gauge couplings which once cleaned of wax so they move, and freed from their carry-cage, should slot into place at the ends around the chassis framing, which being the full depth of the chassis has required a redesign from the couplings on some of my other models (they won't fit my other models). There is also a set of NEM pockets that can be separate from each other, and fit the same way, with rapido-style NEM adapters to fit into them. These have an arm length between "short" and "standard" Graham Farish (MediumShort). There are twice as many of both sorts, so you should end up with some spares even if you break a few. I have also uploaded set of these wagons without couplers, and you can also buy the couplers separately, so mix and match to use up the spares.
First UPDATE 2021-02-28: made a scrape in the diagonal frame members to clear the flanges on Peco Parkside 6.2mm diameter wheels. Made the channel a tiny bit shallower as it was a pain to paint. Added a second model, the one without the plate wagon ends. Added a sprue of lifting N-gauge rapido style couplings and a sprue of NEM pockets, enough to have spares of either. Offered for sale.
Second UPDATE 2021-03-03 Fixed a minor mistake where the underframe members (should) join the headstock.

Third UPDATE 2021-07-04 Added A+BD container pockets to the wagon without plate ends, the same as the other wagon. Lengthened the rapido-style lifting couplers by 0.5mm, and made it a set of 8.
Updated the NEM pocket design. Added a sprue of 8 MediumShort length NEM rapido adapters as an alternative to Graham Farish short or standard length. I had feedback that a good operating distance between wagons was had by using one short and one long (and keeping the wagons the right way round).
