The hourglass was used to measure the passing of time in the ancient world. Skygazers wrote horoscopes based on the hour of birth using the hourglass symbol. It measures the beginning and the end of time. In the hourglass the future is ion top, the past is below and the smal slit in the middle where the sand flows through is the present.
