Product Description
6 Southern Railway open wagons (complete with chassis and couplings, just need wheels - Peco or Parkside are fine).
A bit of background:
The 4 plank wagon is in 'An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons', Vol 3, p46. It was a SR design which was used into the British Railways era, lasting until 1967 on the Isle of Wight, and then into preservation there. Modelled with DSI brakes, for that later period.
The 1 plank wagon was originally from the LSWR, it's shown in 'An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons', Vol 1, p28. It was for stone traffic, particularly stone blocks from Portland, so it's metal chassis, Morton brakes.
The pair of 2 planks are originally S&DJR diagram 1307, shown in 'An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons', Vol 1, p91. It's modelled as the later version in fig 55 with single shoe brakes, not the early one in the photos on that page.
In use until 1947, the version with the really wide door was for the huge rolls of paper for traditional newspaper printing, the one with no door was for 'large single items'.
The 3 plank with Morton brakes is a LSWR open shown in 'An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons', Vol 1, p12. They were used in Cornwall to transport granite and also china clay.
The 3 plank with DSI brakes is S&DJR, illustrated in 'An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons', Vol 1, p99 . It's modelled as the 'modernised' form of the design, which lasted into BR use.
