Destroyers are the workhorses of most fleets, being large enough to be versatile, but small enough to be built in large numbers. Some less well funded fleets even use destroyers as makeshift capital vessels. Destroyers can be found everywhere, doing basically any mission imaginable, and as such civilian encounters with military vessels will rarely be anything other than a destroyer.

This destroyer class retains the total number of guns, but in four single mounts rather then the two twin mounts. This allows the Escort Destroyer to engage targets across a larger number of vectors at the expense of increased mass. The turrets feature an unusual offset arrangement to minimize arc shadows, as well as magnetic interference.
