Product Description
This simplified model of NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (fomerly known as the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Telescope, WFIRST) is based on the June 2019 reference design. Slated for launch in the 2020s, Roman sports a 2.36-meter primary mirror and two science instruments: a Wide-Field Imager (WFI) and a coronagraph. The WFI features the same angular resolution as Hubble but with 100 times the field of view. Data it gathers will enable scientists to discover new and uniquely detailed information about planetary systems around other stars and map how matter is structured and distributed throughout the cosmos. It was named in honor of Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s first chief astronomer, who paved the way for space telescopes.
