Product Description
This is a tail piece for an 8 String G. H. & S. 1920s Banjo Mandolin. I could easily be used for a 4 string as well.
The original broke and although it might be able to be repaired with braising, the break was at the angled part where there is a bit of tension exerted by the strings. The music store I went to and my googling did not produce any part to replace the broken tail piece.
So I spend some time 3D modelling the part from scratch, improved the stablity of the model by reinforcing weak points, printed in PETG for a test fit. I was happy with the part so I uploaded it with Shapeways to be made in Stainless Steel 316L (BJT) (default) . The part has arrived, printed successfully first time, and has been lightly polished and fitted.
The photos of the part are as it arrived, and the photos on the banjo are after polishing. It's nice and strudy, quite heavy and strong. Really happy to have the banjo back working again.
