ZooM is a functional and surprising 3d-printed lamp. Created as a programmable object in generative design software, ZooM's structure is made up of hundreds of repeating elements, that together form a series of interlocking spirals. An example of '4d-printing', ZooM starts life completely assembled and flatpacked. Folding ZooM out to its final shape never ceases to amaze - the video here gives a glimpse.
In use as a lamp, ZooM has an intriguing texture that's flexible like a textile, but maintains its form like a solid object. The semi-transparent structure shield's the bulb's glare, while transmitting light efficiently.

This large version of ZooM has a diameter of about 28 cm and hangs about 25 cm tall. To complete the lampshade, simply use a standard fitting that can be obtained from any hardware store. Use a small diameter, low energy bulb. Note that some powder residue from the production process sometimes stays on the product; this should be easy to clean off before you install the lamp.
