Product Description
This is a set I made to convert the Rivarossi/Con-Cor Challenger and Big Boy models in N scale from coal to oil. It may not be 100% accurate, but should be basic enough that it can be further detailed to match your prototype. Also included are correct size water fill hatches to replace the over sized ones on the model. To attach this you need to sand down the coal load on the tender until it is flush then this can be glued on top. Once the bunker roof is in place you can glue the oil fill hatch(es) onto the bunker.

Replacing the water hatches requires a little more work, again sand the area flush, then either fill in the molded on wood slats and sand flush to simulate the bare steel decking, or sand the molded on hatches away and scribe through the plastic to connect the wood decking. Glue the new hatches centered over where the old ones use to be.

There are enough parts to do two (2) engines in this set, with a few extra water/oil hatches.

Some part cleanup will be necessary. The 3D printing process uses a waxy substance to support certain part features during the printing process. Although the parts are cleaned by Shapeways, some waxy residue may remain. It can be safely removed with water and a mild aqueous detergent like "Simple Green" using an old, soft toothbrush, Q-tips or pipe cleaners. Customers report that "Bestine" and "Goo Gone" also work well.

During the printing process, liquid resin is cured by ultraviolet light. Microscopic bits of resin may remain uncured. Let your parts sit in direct sunlight for a few hours to fully cure the resin.

Water-based acrylic paints meant for plastics is strongly recommended. Other paints, especially enamels, may not cure on Detail 3D-printed plastics.
