Queen (chess)

The queen (♕, ♛) is the most powerful piece in the game of chess, able to move any number of squares vertically, horizontally or diagonally, combining the power of the rook and bishop. Each player starts the game with one queen, placed in the middle of the first rank next to the king. Because the queen is the strongest piece, a pawn is promoted to a queen in the vast majority of cases.

The predecessor to the queen is the ferz, a weak piece only able to move or capture one step diagonally, originating from the Persian game of shatranj. The modern queen gained its power in the 15th century.

La reine (♕, ♛) est la pièce la plus puissante du jeu d' échecs , capable de déplacer n'importe quel nombre de cases verticalement, horizontalement ou en diagonale , combinant la puissance de la tour et du fou . Chaque joueur commence la partie avec une reine, placée au milieu du premier rang à côté du roi . Parce que la reine est la pièce la plus forte, un pion est promu au rang de reine dans la grande majorité des cas.

Le prédécesseur de la reine est le ferz , une pièce faible capable de se déplacer ou de capturer un seul pas en diagonale, issue du jeu persan de shatranj . La reine moderne a acquis son pouvoir au XVe siècle.
