Product Description
This is a model of one of Burlington Northern's Woodchip Gondola classes built by FMC in 1972, A common sight on Western rails, many have been sold onto GBRX and MRL
Built in 1972 to FMC lot 17433, consisted of 150 cars, BN 586850-586999 and almost identical to three other lots bought by BN in the early 1970s. The four lots of cars are subtly different and I offer models of each.
100 cars from this lot were transfered to MRL on that railroad's formation to become MRL 35001-35100
This model is designed to use the following detail parts: Athearn ASF 100ton Trucks or Accurail Barber B-2 Roller Bearing Trucks, Tichy ladder rungs (3062) Tichy 18" Drop Grab Irons (3015), Tichy 18" Grab Irons (3021), , Moloco Freight Car Appliance Kit - Equipo 4000 (CA0303) (needs a lever rather than a wheel), Yarmouth Models Proto2000 tankcar stirrups (203)
The car will accept either Kadee or Sergent couplers
To reduce distortion during shipping of the sides and cross braces, I added three triangular cross braces that need to be removed to complete the model. The 6 round cross braces are part of the car and should be left, althouigh they did get bent and lost in service. Use wire cutters to cut them near to the top cord then sanded flat.
The following hardware is also needed: Everbilt 8in Mending Plate SKU 242993 (available from Home depot). 2-56 Hex Jam Nut and screws (length TBD) for truck attachment. M2 Countersink screws or equivalent for coupler pockets.
